Sambhal: In a suspected case of dishonour killing, a girl was allegedly shot dead by her father in Baniyather area, police said on Monday. The 22-year-old girl was shot dead by her father Ram Chandra, with a country-made fire-arm in Narauli town on Sunday evening, Station Officer Kunj Bihari Mishra said. Prima facie it seemed to be a case of dishonour killing as the girl had married against her father’s wish, he said adding, the accused has been arrested.  Read More …

In a suspected case of honour killing, a 22-year-old girl was shot dead allegedly by her brother who was opposed to her relationship with a boy in Loee village in Muzaffarnagar. CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Friday ordered police protection, if necessary, to a Rajasthani woman who apprehended “honour killing” at the hands of her own family members for marrying a Tamil man. Manju (19) married a youth from Coimbatore in April this year and her parents, who were opposed to the marriage, took her to Rajasthan by force. Every time the term “honour killing” is used, we view the murder of women through the eyes of their killers. By adding the word “honour” to killing, we use the language of those who justify this odious crime on the basis of “honourable” motives. We use the language of their excuses. We must stop doing this. Linguistic labels matter. The term “honour killing” not only cedes too much power to the perpetrator, but is offensive to survivors and women. Family strangulates girl, hangs body to pass it off as suicide

In a case of honour killing, a 14-year-old girl was strangulated to death by her family members who later hanged her body to pass it off as a case of suicide in Mirzapur Jagir village of Bareilly, police said on Monday. The victim, a class 8 student was spotted with her paramour by her family members while she was going to market on Sunday.
